Adolfo Natalini (Up Group) - Italian Carrara Marble Platter c1970s
Adolfo Natalini made his mark as a founder of 1960s design collective Superstudio and was a pioneer of Radical Architecture in the 1960s-70s. He went on to become artistic director of Up&Up (later Up Group)- bringing his post-modern approach to designs in marble using inlays and geometry in three-dimensional designs that allow different stones to chase and play in harmony.
The Commesso plate remains largely unchanged and features white Italian Carrara marble, red marble from France, and green marble from the Swiss Alps. Commesso retails today at AU$2300, while vintage versions can command up to AU$3000.
This example is in excellent vintage condition with minimal traces of wear. The original sticker is partially present, and can be compared to original versions of the era. The marble examples are superb and feature excellent and distinctive markings. All joins are smooth and there are no apparent chips or cracks.
