After the success of a limited collection of carbon-based works in 2023, Sherylle is currently developing a body of work exploring the materiality of carbon.
Themes of global industrialisation, climate change, and the carbon cycle are echoed and embodied throughout the creative process.
Pyrogenic carbon has been sourced primarily from the site of the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria, and private land affected by fire in WA. This raw material anchors the project, locates it within a powerful social narrative, and provides a level of emotional reckoning.
The project will investigate ways in which materials convey meaning, express visual narratives, engage the senses, and arouse emotional and sensory recall.
Up to twelve works will be produced, and available for sale in 2025.
